Travel to Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is a sovereign island that is found in the Eastern Caribbean. It is part of the Lesser Antilles chain of islands and is just south of Martinique. Control of the island for many years switched between France and England. Since 1660, it has switched hands a total of 14 times. Since 1979, it became an independent state within the United Kingdom. Because tourism is the primary component of the island’s economy, you’ll find a fully developed resort structure open to you during your stay. World-class accommodations mix with stunning beaches to create a relaxing holiday experience.

Saint Lucia has something for the adventurer as well. The Sulfur Springs are one of the primary attractions on the island. There is a pool with warm water where swimming is permitted, so if you head out to see the springs, be sure to bring your swimming apparel. It may be smaller than most waterfalls, but the Toraille Waterfall has a charm all its own. You can stand underneath the falls for a refreshing experience or enjoy wading through the waist-deep pool that accommodates it.

You can also take on a technical climbing trekking excursion by taking the trail at Petit Piton. Hiking to Gros Piton is something most people can achieve, though the trail is somewhat strenuous with is consistent ascent that totals about 600m. Diving, ziplining, and sailing are all possible as well. If you’re looking for a relaxing holiday, Saint Lucia has much to offer. Be sure to give it a closer look.

Best of Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is a beautiful, British Commonwealth country in the Caribbean. The interior is made for exploring and hiking, with beautiful rainforests, lush vegetation, and volcanic mountains. Reggae bars, scuba diving, snorkeling, ocean swimming and beautiful beaches await the traveler, and St Lucia has a pulse and rhythm all its own. Locals are notoriously friendly, the food is fantastic, and English is the national language, making it a great vacation spot for North Americans, where the visitor will be treated to an authentic experience of life in the West Indies.

Saint Lucia is a fantastic island for a vacation. While it’s a major stopping point for many Caribbean cruises and tourism is an important industry, the island isn’t as overrun with tourists as some other locations in the Caribbean. The friendliness and openness of locals and the virtually untouched beauty of the jungle interior make it an incredible place for an authentic experience of West Indies culture, from reggae to traditional rotis (roast meats or vegetables served on a flat bread). The adventure tourism industry is also an important part of Saint Lucia’s tourism sector. Zip lining, mountain bike treks, quad tours, hiking trips up the Pitons, rock-climbing, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing and SCUBA diving are all easily accessible, making the island so much more than just another beach resort.

Traditional food is another plus, with spicy roast meats, fresh vegetables and seafood straight from the ocean being cooked to perfection and served in restaurants and beach huts throughout the island. Local festivals are also great places to hear traditional music and eat local cuisine, and it’s easy to catch one – there are usually several a month throughout the island.

Rodney Bay also offers more of the classic tourist experience, for those just looking to get away and relax. Between the casino, massages and spas and the beautiful bay, it’s the perfect location to lounge around and soak up the sun almost any day of the year.

The best time to visit is during the dry season, roughly January to April. The weather is similar year-round thanks to the island’s location near the equator, but hurricanes do occur throughout the wet season. It is however rare to be caught in one, and the island’s administration has early detection systems and emergency plans in place to ensure the safety of the island’s locals and visitors. The wet season is a good time to beat crowds, and rains are generally warm and don’t last very long, with annual rainfall peaking in September, October and November at an average of about one inch.

May is also the best time to visit for music lovers, when an internationally renowned jazz festival is held on the island. The local folk music tradition and Caribbean music styles like Reggae and Calypso can be heard live year-round at local festivals, bars and restaurants.
