The Republic of the Philippines consists of over 7,600 islands, located in the western Pacific. Bordered by the South China Sea, the islands share maritime borders with Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

What makes the culture of the Philippines such a joy to experience is the rich fusion of international flavors that have been welcomed into it. Not only can one experience the beautiful traditions of the Filipino people, but Spanish, American, Japanese, and Indian influences help to make for an incredible exploration opportunity.

Many make their way to Manila when visiting this archipelago, but there are numerous options that are worth exploring. Davao, for example, is one of the largest cities in terms of land area in the world and provides access to Mount Apo. Or there’s the beautifully preserved world heritage site at Vigan, the capital of Ilocos Sur.

There is also the amazing Zamboanga, which is where the two major religions of the Philippines come together. You’ll find towering cathedrals, grand mosques, and historic colonial structures just waiting for a visit.

From the ancient rice terraces to the birthplace of scuba diving at Batangas, the Philippines offer an intriguing and uplifting holiday opportunity. Relax by the beach, explore as you like, and be prepared to have an amazing time.

If you feel like heading in to one of the Philippine’s big cities you must check out Manila. This sprawling metropolis is the home of countless shopping malls and interesting Spanish-Filipino architecture. You can shop, eat and drink till you can’t take it anymore in this truly wonderful city. The people in Manila are super friendly and always up beat.

January to may usually brings the best weather to the Philippines, but really anytime of the year is a good time to go. June to early December is monsoon season, but they are hard to predict and at worst it will rain for a couple of days, in which case it is best to adopt the Filipino saying bahala na, meaning ‘whatever will be will be’.

Spend your time Island hoping between one of the 7000 islands and snorkelling or diving down to check out the magnificent coral reefs that lace the bright blue waters. If diving is not your thing simply laze on the beach or pull up a chair at your favourite beach bar and get in to some serious relaxation time. Water sports are common around the Philippines so it wont be hard to find a boat to take you paragliding or maybe hire a board and go kite surfing. The surf is up at certain times of the year here so surfers will definitely want to catch a few waves if they get the opportunity.

Head in to the big cities in the Philippines and explore the many malls and markets that in such big numbers they are easy to find. The most notable Mega metropolis would be Manila, famous for hosting the ‘Thrilla in Manila’ boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. The malls here are more vibrant than usual because the thousands of Filipinos that come to work and play here everyday are just so up beat and friendly. They are truly a delight to be around and make this amazing holiday spot all the more enjoyable.

A Good Travel Tip – Boracay Island

Of the 7,107 islands that make up the Republic of the Philippines, one particular island has made it to the list of the top ten beaches of the world. Shaped like a butterfly, the island of Boracay has become a popular vacation destination. Boracay is located in Western Visayas, at the northwestern end of Panay. Its powdery, sugar-white beaches and affordable accommodations make it an ideal retreat from the stress of work and all other aspects of everyday life.

The most practical and hassle-free way to get to Boracay is to board a plane from Manila to Caticlan. However, this might be difficult during the high season, which is from November to June. A good alternative would be to book a flight to either Kalibo or Roxas, which are just about two to four hours away from Caticlan.

Pump boats ferry people between Caticlan and Boracay every fifteen minutes, beginning at 6 am to 6 pm. The boats dock at either of the three boat stations on White Beach, which is the most visible and most populated among all three of Boracay’s beaches. The other two beaches are Bulabog Beach, which is to the east and Puka Beach, which is to the north.

There are lots to do in Boracay. Numerous resorts and sport centers offer boating and different water sports, diving and snorkeling, golfing, horseback riding, massage, and even shopping. For the athlete, water sports can be organized from hotels, resorts, or water-sport centers located along the beach path or from one of the many vendors that roam around, selling trips and activities. Among the exciting things offered are boating, jet-ski rentals, kayaking, skim boarding, and kite surfing. For diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, there are over 30 dive sites around Boracay to explore. These dive sites are just minutes away from each other and boast of gorgeous corals and majestic fishes.
