Travel to Curacao

Curacao can be found in the Caribbean Sea, tucked up next to the continent of South America. It is a Dutch island, known for stunning coves, beautiful coral reefs, and extraordinary diving opportunities. The capital city, Willemstad, is a major landmark in Curacao. There are famous carnivals that take place here between the beginning of January and the final days of February or March. These events draw tourists from all over the world. It’s a perfect chance to dance in the street with the locals. Shopping addicts will also get their fix in Curacao, and then some. There are more than just Dutch-inspired treasures here to gawk at. There is also a famous shopping district, comprising five blocks, called Punda.

Be sure to reserve a day to tour the historic downtown of Willemstad. Established in 1634 when Fort Amsterdam was being constructed, this world heritage site offers a remarkable Dutch colonial atmosphere. Many of the buildings have been well-preserved, allowing one to find the perfect dining spot, coffee shop, or bar to enjoy. There are 35 beaches in total that can be enjoyed on Curacao and each one offers a unique experience. Playa Knip is arguably the most famous beach on the island and it is difficult to argue with its well-groomed beach, clean waters, and numerous amenities. If you want a taste of the traditional Curacao, consider spending a day on the golden sands of Playa Lagun.

There are national parks to tour in Curacao as well. You can take on a hiking adventure on Christoffelpark, with 8 different trails which offer a different level of difficulty so everyone can be active if they wish. Another famous tourist attraction is the Substation Curacao, which has curasub, a mini submarine that allows for submarine diving and ocean exploration. Along with the submarine diving, visitors can explore more beneath the ocean at Hato Caves, which are below sea-level underground caves. Curacao’s many sea and wildlife attractions are great for the visiting guests.

Curacao’s cuisine combines its local ingredients of papayas, goats, and more. The locals create exotic dishes that their visitors greatly enjoy. The entirety of the local food is called Krioyo and is a blend of Caribbean and Latin American influences perfect for the adventurous eater. Curacaoans are huge fans of soups and stews. Traditional soups include, guiambo, a soup made from okra and seafood, kadushi, a cactus soup, and sopi mondongo, a soup made from intestines. The other entrees are tasty as well. Try the delicious stoba, a stew with papaya, beef, and goat, funchi, a cornmeal paste, and fried plantains, for a taste of traditional Curacao meals.
