Travel to Palau

The Republic of Palau is located in the western Pacific and is comprised of over 300 islands. Settled around 3,000 years ago, the islands have seen numerous European influences come its way since the 16th century. The islands were brought into a governed trust overseen by the United States in 1947 and then granted full sovereignty in 1994. It still operates under a compact of free association with the United States, which includes funding and social services.

What makes a trip to Palau so intriguing are the diving opportunities. Make your way over to Blue Corner and you’ll find sharks are almost always present. It’s less than an hour away by boat from the local resorts and it can be a life-changing experience. Additional diving sites include Ulong Channel and the Blue Holes. Each site has enough variety that the dives can be repeated daily for a different experience.

Palau also has unique jellyfish lakes. Since the jellyfish have no predators, they have evolved to the point where they have no stingers. A permit is required to visit the lake and diving is not permitted, but snorkeling is allowed and worth the investment.

For those who wish to stay on land, try the International Coral Reef Center. This aquarium provides an excellent set of exhibits that teaches about life in the area. You can see a couple of crocodiles and enjoy the deep-water aquariums that are on the grounds.

Palau is a stunning island destination that will encourage you to explore the outdoors. You can have the traditional resort experience as well, which is why it could be the perfect holiday option.
