Stretching along the idyllic Pula Bay, the town offers a fantastic range of hotel and accommodation options, with most offering spectacular views over the Adriatic Sea. The Old Town is a great place to base yourself if you’re looking to make the most of the historical sights, with the Arch of the Sergii and the Roman amphitheatre easily accessible.

Away from the bustle of the main town during holidays to Pula are larger hotel complexes; many of which are located along the Verudela Peninsula that boasts over 180-kilometres of sandy and pebbled beaches. If you fancy a rural getaway, staying in northern Pula is a good option. Close in proximity to small villages such as Fazana, it’s a great place to soak up local Croatian life and sample traditional mixed grills, known locally as roštilja.

Most of the fun is had around the ancient Fort Bourguignon area where you’ll be able to let your hair down and dance until dawn.

The calm blue waters are great for swimming and ideal for families with children or swimmers who lack confidence. The promenades that follow the beaches have some great views out over the water and the surrounding areas.

Most people enjoy lazing around on the beach making the most of the sunshine and occasionally having a swim or a cool down in the water. If however you fancy being a little more active there are beach volleyball courts and water sports operators where you can try windsurfing or canoeing. The calm waters are perfect for scuba diving and there are some dive centres where you can rent gear or learn the ropes.

The beaches have plenty of places where you can grab a drink and a bite to eat during the day. For evening and nighttime entertainment, head to the city where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from, where you can eat, drink and be merry. For local dishes try the traditional taverns, the seafood is a must, and if you want to try your hand at poker or roulette then head to the casino.

The city of Pula has been standing for thousands of years and has been the capital of the Istria region for hundreds of years. There is a wide range of historic buildings and monuments scattered throughout the city, ranging from the Roman amphitheatre to the ancient city walls. The city is also home to a number of old churches and chapels that date back hundreds of years.
