Visit Pula Tourist Information

Steeped in history and brimming with fascinating sights, the beautiful town of Pula is one of Europe’s best kept secrets. Located on the southern tip of Istria’s peninsula, it benefits from a fantastic location, where holidaymakers can enjoy the best of its Old Town before kicking back on the beach. Seek out the set of well-preserved 1st century ruins, marvel at the fascinating architecture, and discover a coastline that’s dotted with idyllic sunbathing spots. With so much on its doorstep, Pula holidays are great for those looking for the perfect mix of culture and relaxation.

Stretching along the idyllic Pula Bay, the town offers a fantastic range of hotel and accommodation options, with most offering spectacular views over the Adriatic Sea. The Old Town is a great place to base yourself if you’re looking to make the most of the historical sights, with the Arch of the Sergii and the Roman amphitheatre easily accessible.

Away from the bustle of the main town during holidays to Pula are larger hotel complexes; many of which are located along the Verudela Peninsula that boasts over 180-kilometres of sandy and pebbled beaches. If you fancy a rural getaway, staying in northern Pula is a good option. Close in proximity to small villages such as Fazana, it’s a great place to soak up local Croatian life and sample traditional mixed grills, known locally as roštilja.

One of Pula’s main draws is its gorgeous stretch of beach. Boasting sparkling, crystal clear waters and a mix of pebbles and powdery sand, it’s a sun-kissed slice of heaven. There are also plenty of hideaway coves, so it won’t be difficult to find your own spot of pure beach bliss.
Pula holidays are great for those who want to enjoy Croatia’s vibrant nightlife scene. As the sun goes down, the town comes into its own with a plethora of bars, restaurants and clubs opening their doors. Most of the fun is had around the ancient Fort Bourguignon area where you’ll be able to let your hair down and dance until dawn.

Blessed with a Mediterranean climate, holidays to Pula enjoy hot summers and mild winters. Most of the year, you can expect warm, sunny days and cool evenings. The summer months can be especially hot and many choose to visit in the autumn or spring instead, which is a great option for those who are keen to get out and about, exploring the region.

The city of Pula doesn’t have any beaches, however a short distance outside the city are a number of picturesque beaches lapped by the calm waters of the Adriatic. The beaches are mainly sandy with a few pebbles and some shingle that are perfect for topping up the tan and relaxing. The calm blue waters are great for swimming and ideal for families with children or swimmers who lack confidence. The promenades that follow the beaches have some great views out over the water and the surrounding areas.

Most people enjoy lazing around on the beach making the most of the sunshine and occasionally having a swim or a cool down in the water. If however you fancy being a little more active there are beach volleyball courts and water sports operators where you can try windsurfing or canoeing. The calm waters are perfect for scuba diving and there are some dive centres where you can rent gear or learn the ropes.

The beaches have plenty of places where you can grab a drink and a bite to eat during the day. For evening and nighttime entertainment, head to the city where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from, where you can eat, drink and be merry. For local dishes try the traditional taverns, the seafood is a must, and if you want to try your hand at poker or roulette then head to the casino.

The city of Pula has been standing for thousands of years and has been the capital of the Istria region for hundreds of years. There is a wide range of historic buildings and monuments scattered throughout the city, ranging from the Roman amphitheatre to the ancient city walls. The city is also home to a number of old churches and chapels that date back hundreds of years.

Travel to Vodnjan

Located in Isatria, Vodnjan brings a flavor of Italy to your Croatian holiday experience. According to its founding legends, the city was initially developed from an association of 7 villas that were established during the Roman era. Visit the town center and you’ll find yourself in People Square. This large area denotes the place where a defensive castle was initially built, perhaps as early as the 4th century. It was torn down in 1808, but that doesn’t eliminate the majestic atmosphere that the square provides. You’ll find the Benussi House, the Bembo House, and the Bradamante Palace are all accessible from this one location.

Be sure to visit St. Biagio Church during your stay in Vodnjan as well. It is the largest church on the peninsula and was consecrated in 1800. Several works that were in the Romanesque church that was torn down to build this one are still maintained there, including a 15th century bas relief and paintings from as early as the 14th century.

For some beach time, try heading to the small village of Peroj or the town of Fazana. You’ll be able to hire a water taxi to explore the Islands of Brioni, which are designated as a national park, charter a boat for a day of relaxation, or head out into the water and take a swim.

Whether you want to sip the local wine or enjoy a warm coffee, you’ll find plenty of reasons to let time stop so you can enjoy yourself in Vodnjan. Come here and you may be tempted to stay for an even longer holiday in the future.
