Many people around the world look for great vacation locations to take quick vacations.  Most of all though they want a cheap getaway.

If you want to get out of town for the weekend or an even longer vacation you should consider wizzing off to Bratislava.  Part of Slovakia, Bratislava has a lot of attractions for just about anybody looking to enjoy their time away from work and home.

A collection of modern landmarks are available to tour.  Sitting just above the Danube River at the top of the SNP bridge is the UFO Restaurant.  The view is amazing no matter the time of the year or day but for the most romantic view is at sunset.  The lights dim and change color so that you can take in the beautiful surroundings.

Another amazing view and meal can be found at the Kamzik TV Tower.  At the top of Kamzil hill and in the Bratislava Forest Park the tower features a revolving restaurant and an observation deck.  The restaurant features Mediterranean food and is split into two different sections, a regular restaurant and a café/bar allow people of all ages and cravings to enjoy their time at the tower.

Kids and adults alike can’t help but enjoy castles.  Bratislava plays host to two castles that can be toured, Bratislava Castle and Devin Castle.  Both castles are defensive castles that speak of an era of battles with swords and knights.  Both castles have been rebuilt/renovated from their original state but in a manner so close to the original it would be hard to tell if you didn’t know ahead of time.  These castles will keep your kids entertained for hours and the historical side of you wanting to see every last inch.

Bratislava is more than just attractions though, it is a rich city that has a lot of beautiful features.  Bratislava sits in perfect combination of land to allow for parks and forests throughout the city.  There is approximately 110 square meters of green space per local inhabitant.  This means that there are plenty of trees and beautiful space to spend your vacation.

Do you like theatre and performing arts?  Bratislava is considered the heart of the theatre for Slovakia.  The national theatre is located in Bratislava along with performance halls.  You can see everything from opera to ballet to dramas performed in the local theatre.  It is the perfect way to end, or start, an amazing night on vacation.

If you are more into the traditional tourist activities there are plenty of tours available of the area.  You can even take a tour of Old Town on a small train.  The Slovak National Museum and National Gallery are both located in Bratislava giving those who wish to tour parts of history and art from the local culture a great opportunity.

What is best about Bratislava is that it is safe.  People from all walks of life and with all different types of feature visit the area.  Traveling via bus is an easy way to move between local areas but tourists and residents both agree that the train is a more comfortable and fun experience.  Locals say that the trains are safe to travel on at all times.

More than just a vacation destination, Bratislava is also a major point in the Slovakian political world.  The Slovak parliament, presidency, and ministries all call Bratislava home.  It is also home to the supreme court.  With all of these key political features there is a heavy police presence in the area whether you see it or not.  This goes to further make Bratislava a safe vacation location.

If you are looking for a weekend trip or a longer vacation Bratislava is the place to go.  Airfare has never been cheaper making it the perfect cheap getaway.  Good food, great places to stay, and amazing attractions will make your experience one to remember.  The fact that it is also the home to the heart of Slovakia does not hurt the visitation factor.  Who knows, maybe you will want to go back again.
