Travel to British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands are located in the Leeward Islands and part of the Virgin Islands chain which is shared in responsibility with the United States with the U.S. Virgin Islands. About 15 of the islands are inhabited out of the 50 that are under the responsibility of the United Kingdom.

A visit to the British Virgin Islands should always include the beach. There are numerous kilometers of white-sand beaches to enjoy. Some are directly served by the local resorts and have full amenities, while others are isolated and rustic. Sailing is a common afternoon activity and charters are regularly available so a leisurely afternoon can be planned. The Baths National Park is one stop that cannot be missed during a trip to these islands. The Baths are just 2 km south of Spanish Town and their unique geological formations provide large granite boulders that protect areas of the beach. Swimming and snorkeling are allowed in the area, but finding grottoes, arches, tunnels, and tidal pools is also part of the fun. For those who love snorkeling and diving, the coral reefs near Anegada are another wonderful destination to consider.

There are several important historical locations to explore throughout the islands as well. One of the most important, St. Phillip’s Church in Tortola, was originally built in 1840 by a community that had been liberated from illegal slave ships. Whether you sail to an uninhabited island or you enjoy the world-class provisions at one of the beautiful resorts, the British Virgin Islands provides a dream destination. It is an opportunity that should not be missed.
