Arthur’s Pass village is one of the highest settlements in the country. Here you can gaze into the historic Otira rail tunnel – an epic engineering feat through 8.5 kilometres of rock.

There’s something for every walker in Arthur’s Pass – from short 30 minute walks through beech forest suitable for families, to a strenuous climb to the summit of a mountain with panoramic views for those with experience seeking a challenge.

A must-do at Arthur’s pass is the walk to the base of the Devil’s Punchbowl waterfall. It is well worth doing in any weather, any time of the year. The walking track is one hour return and it is suitable for short walking and novice hikers. Short family walks include the Millennium Walk and the Arthur’s pass Village Historic Walk.

Renowned for its stunning limestone rock formations and rocky outcrops nestled in grassy paddocks, each filled with hundreds of limestone boulders and thousand’s of named bouldering problems.
