Prague better known as ‘Praha’ to the Czechs is situated in central Europe. Its history dates back over 1000 years. This city was the great capital of the Holy Roman Empire and then of Czechoslovakia.

It became free from the soviet regime in 1989, before the Czech Republic separated from Slovakia. Nicknamed as the ‘City of Hundred Spires’, it is the present capital of the Czech Republic.

People visit the city as it enchants them by its medieval charm and heritage. It equals Paris in terms of beauty, and beer, the best in Europe. It has a population of 1.3 million people.

In the heart of the city, you can see a rich mix of architectural styles, with renaissance, Gothic, baroque, art nouveau and modernist buildings and monuments towering over the skyline. The Tyn Church is an important building where one can see three of these styles brought together in one structure whereas the Dancing House is the most famous modern building.

The river Vltava runs through the city and separates the Old Town from what is known as the Lesser Town. Prague Castle is one of the world’s largest castles and is officially recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site. It has been home for Bohemia kings, Roman emperors and Czech presidents; as is used as home for the modern Czech government today. Charles Bridge is another important site as it is a historic and intricately designed pedestrian bridge over the Vltava River connecting the Lesser Town on the west to the Old Town in the east.

The Astronomical clock here is one of the world’s oldest working clocks. Every hour it comes alive with a captivating must-see show. In the heart of the New Town is the city’s historic focal point, Wenceslas Square, which is a great place for visitors’ to shop and eat out.

It is a city where people head for weekend getaways as it doesn’t take long to discover the city. It enjoys a seasonal weather with great summers and cold winters. July and August are the busiest months due to the warm temperature and holiday season. But, it is equally delightful in the blossoming spring or peaceful autumn months.

Cheap getaways are provided by many travel agencies with all services ranging from low cost airlines to hotels, travel insurance, car hiring etc. With regular flights, selected super hotels in central locations and mind bowing things to do, Prague has it all.
