Founded in 1900 to take advantage of the local iron deposits, Kiruna is the most northern community in Sweden and is a popular place to visit because of its Icehotel. It’s a residence that is carved from the snow and ice each year a short drive from the community and is known as the world’s first ice hotel. It first opened in 1990 and is built each year from December to April.
Everything in the hotel is made from ice, including the beds, chairs, and furniture and there is a bar that serves drinks in ice glasses on site.
