Discover Paphos
Paphos is located in the far west of Cyprus and is a delight to discover, with the entire city protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hundreds of years of history surrounds Paphos, with many civilisations – including the Myceneans, ancient Greeks and Byzantines – having been based here over the centuries. As a result, there are some fantastic archaeological sites and old buildings to discover; the mosaics of Nea Paphos are particularly spectacular.
However, Paphos has more to offer than history and culture alone, as there are some stunning beaches close to the city. At one of these you’ll find the Petra tou Romiou, or the Rock of Aphrodite. This is an interesting rock formation in the sea just off the coast of a stunning white-sand beach and, as its name suggests, it is associated with the goddess Aphrodite.
Another highlight near Paphos is the stunningly beautiful Akamas Peninsula, which is situated to the north of the city. This area is completely undeveloped and is a haven for walkers, with a network of trails that will lead you to its secluded beaches, along its cliffs and through areas of forest.
