Located in southern Poland, Rzeszow has been a center of trade throughout history because of its location on both a major east/west trading route and a north/south route. Because of this location, however, it has also been vulnerable to attacks from groups wishing to control this hub. In the 15th century alone, the city was destroyed on three separate occasions!

In World War II, the city was a major player in the resistance against Nazi occupiers, made possible because of the Nazi extermination camp set up there. Why should people visit Rzeszow today? Because a lot can be learned in a place where old and new meet.

One of the beautiful things about Rzeszow is the architecture of the various buildings that occupy the city. Many of the current buildings of the city were constructed in the 16th century and reflect the Gothic influences of the time. Though many of the buildings have had to be rebuilt or restored in some way because of the various conflicts the city as seen, a beautiful day deserves a cup of coffee in hand and a stroll through the blocks of Rzeszow. It really is a unique collection of architecture that is rarely seen today anywhere in the world.

Beautiful arches take you through dark passageways that acted as a form of an underground city.
