Located on Fiji’s second biggest island, Vanua Levu, Savusavu is the perfect paradise holiday getaway. Your sunny days will be filled with exploring the wonderful sights of this visually vibrant place while your nights will be spent sampling some of the best local cuisine in the country. Certainly the stuff of a holiday to remember.

Holidaying in Savusavu gives you the best of both worlds: the ocean and beaches that the country is so famous for, as well as the glory of the surrounding countryside and its luxuriant forests. Many visitors say Savusavu perfectly encapsulates the essence of Fiji. Parts of the town itself seem to hark back to the simpler, more carefree days.

One way to see the beauty of the area around Savusavu is to rent a sturdy mountain bike in town and do it at your own pace. Perhaps you’d also like to see what the area looks like from an off-shore perspective; you can do just that, again under your own power, by renting a kayak and paddling down along the coast.

Cruises are another popular option, not setting out too far into the South Pacific Ocean but staying near the beaches. Sunset tours are a wonderfully romantic way to end the day.

Scuba-diving is immensely popular here, due to the shimmering water and the bountiful life within in. There are a number of dive centres were you can organise trips, or learn to scuba dive before you set out, if you don’t know how. Certainly, the riches of the sea are not to be missed.

You can also learn about black pearls, how they’re formed into jewellery, and be taken out to a pearl farm where you can see the oyster beds from a glass-bottomed boat, or you can jump in with a snorkel.

Naturally, you will want to check out the hot springs that are steaming in various areas. The water is so hot in some that the locals use them to cook meals. Over a century ago, these boiling springs were huge gushing geysers. There’s a hot spring baths where you can be rejuvenated; it claims a number of health benefits too.

Dine on delicious seafood at night and enjoy the best of Fijian hospitality, at your hotel or resort or by going out to a good restaurant in town. There are bars and clubs around town if you feel like extending your night out, including at the Savusavu Yacht Club, where tourists are considered temporary, if not honoured, members for the night.
