The largest city on the Turkish Riviera and the third most visited city in the world, Antalya attracts plenty of vacationers with its incredibly long and exquisite coastline, pristine beaches, and historic buildings and ruins. Known as “the blue city” as well as “paradise on earth”, venture to Antalya and gaze upon the world-famous Manavagat Waterfall or the awe-inspiring theatre in the ancient city of Aspendos. From beaches to museums to clubbing, an Antalya vacation is not one that you will soon forget.

In Antalya, the place for sightseers to stay is Kaleici, the central old quarter within massive Roman stone walls. The area features charming old houses that overshadow the narrow, winding streets. Even with its historical character, Kaleici manages to achieve modernity by housing plenty of small boutique hotels and inns that provide comfortable accommodations. Also located there is the Antalya Kaleici Marina, which is considered to be one of the prettiest arenas in Turkey and offers a plenitude of cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops and yacht services. With everything at your fingertips, it’s the best area to stay in Antalya.

Antalya is truly a city of wonders and provides activities that reflect that. To enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds the region, traveling to the Taurus Mountains is all that is needed. The mountains host national parks that, in the warmer months, offer hiking trips and exploration of the forests, but in the winter also provide skiing opportunities down the mountains. There is even Sakiilkent, a developed ski resort to host people in the colder months.

Another aspect of this marvelous city is the beaches and the waterfalls. Konyaalti Beach and Lara Beach are the two largest beaches of Antalya, Lara being one of the longest sand beaches in Turkey as well as including a luxury hotel district on its eastern side. The Upper Duden Waterfalls are a popular picnic area for locals and visitors alike and provides a good way to cool down, which is to venture into the cave behind the falls.

A must-see gem of the area is the Karain Cave, which contains remains of human activity as old as 200,000 years and remnants of the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze ages. Many of the objects of the cave can also be found at the Antalya Archaeological Museum, which is a prize-winning institution and presents some of Turkey’s most important archaeological artifacts all displayed chronologically from prehistory through to the Ottoman era.

For more history, you can just take in the sites. Perge is a significant Antalya ruin and dates back to pre-Greek times. In the northern mountains resides Termessos, which is a national park and the site of an ancient city that Alexander the Great failed to conquer. Antalya is a city that fuses modernity and history: modern highways run through this mountainous area and some of the scenery on this route includes remainders of past transport routes, impressive architecture, and the olds inns of the Seljuk and Ottoman Empires.
