Travel to Tivoli

For the best views of the Roman Campagna, you must make a trip to Tivoli. With cultural influences that date beyond the Roman Empire, you’ll find plenty of historical footsteps to follow during a stay here. One such example of the majestic offerings that are available in Tivoli is the Castle of Rocca Pia. It was built in the 15th century by Pope Pius the second and is a stunning, imposing castle that is well-preserved. Four large towers are part of the complex, though in recent years, it has been used as a prison, so it isn’t open to the public.

Two world heritage sites are available to tour when visiting Tivoli. The Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este are part of the large Roman archeological complex that was originally constructed around the 2nd century AD. Grottos, pools, and other secrets are waiting there to be unlocked. You’ll also want to take the time to see the Little Waterfalls under the Ponte Gregoriano and explore the surrounding area.

The Sanctuary of Hercules the Winner, one of the largest structures in 2nd century BC Italy, including a theater, porticoed square, and a temple. It now lies in ruins, but serves as a reminder of how creative and inspirational our ancestors happened to be. Exploring the old town is always a fun way to spend an afternoon when visiting as well.

Tivoli is one of those cities where you’ll find gardens, a resort-like atmosphere, and beautiful vistas to explore. Whether you take a walk through history or you explore to find a modern marvel, this city will welcome you with open arms.
