Nantes is the perfect getaway to Brittany and the Loire River. Over the last decade the go-ahead city of Nantes has transformed itself into an endearing metropolis.

Home to the newly renovated 15th Century Chateau des Bretagne, where the Dukes of Brittany once lived.  The castle is now a local history museum with multimedia exhibits, and visitors can walk among the torrents.

Nantes is now transformed from a gritty shipbuilding to city to a sociable cultural hub, quirky art and the student population keeps the city lively on the banks of the Loire River.
The is also known for art de vivre, and is home to one of France’s top sympathy orchestras and a fine opera company that performs in the Theatre Grasin.

The best way to experience Nantes is from the  top of the elephant, forty foot tall mechanical mammoth, with amazing views of the city. Propelled by a recycled combine-harvester engine and lumbers along at forty five feet a minute, trumpeting loudly and spraying water at the delighted locals and visitors.

In the city’s historic centre, the classic sites have been decked-out, from the 15th Century cathedral to the Chateau of Dukes of Brittany, now a museum of local history. Learn about the redoubtable Anne of Brittany, a women of power for five centuries and experience the shudders of the navires negriers, the slave ships.

Visit the Passage Pommeraye and experience the shopping in Nantes.  Built in 1843 and still unchanged in the 21st Century. Built on a steep incline, with three floors with numerous shops and monumental decorative staircase.

On the River Loire known locally as ‘Venice of the West’ – the most visited river in the whole of Europe along with the Danube and its tributaries.  The remarkable Loire with its natural space and intersection of two bird migration paths and is home to over 200 animal species.  Upstream, the historical richness of the Loire River and its castles will take anyone’s breath away.

Nantes is a stones throw away from Mont-Saint Michel, discover the important pilgrimage site. It is an experience in its self. Experience the different stages  of its construction and unique architecture ensemble that has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
